On 26th August 2021, Ultra hosted a gaming webinar: How To Make Money Whilst Playing Fortnite. It was hosted by avid gamer and Twitch streamer, Kayla Sinead. Since she started gaming at 4 years old, Kayla has learned how to monetise her hobby, therefore not only doing what she loves, but making an income from it too!
During the webinar, Kayla informed the attendees of the different ways in which she is able to monetise her love for gaming. Ensuring that you were on as many social media platforms as possible was vital, in her opinion. By establishing yourself on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Youtube, Facebook and Twitch, Kayla stated that this is a vital way to grow your following; you cannot just be on Twitch. By exposing yourselves to other platforms, you are making your online presence more visible, which results in more subscribers and views. As a content creator, you are not only creating videos, but you are also trying to build a loyal community. This ensures long-term financial gain.
Kayla also encouraged our young audience to take a look at their skillset. When it comes to making content, it’s important to invest in not only your equipment, but also yourself. She mentioned that if you are somebody who is not used to editing videos, then perhaps it is necessary for you to enrol yourself in a video editing course.
By the same token, investing in your equipment is also one of the most important things to keep in mind too. They are not a purchase, instead, they are an investment. A good PC, lighting, headsets and streaming equipment can be expensive, but, they are necessary. In order to make money, you must spend money.
Finally, Kayla ended off the webinar with words of wisdom. She made it clear that success does not come overnight, but instead, with dedication, consistency and drive. Although Twitch streaming may seem mainly about gameplay, sometimes people are there to also watch you, they aren’t always just there for the game play. Personality is very important.
It also may be necessary at the beginning, to work a part-time job whilst also being a streamer. She mentions how she too has multiple streams of income and does not just rely on Twitch, as she also does consultancy work with gaming organisations, using her skillset of facilitation and training to earn extra money.
Overall, by the end of the webinar, the majority of attendees had said that they now knew a lot about how to make money whilst playing Fortnite.
